The Math Skills Development Project (MSDP)
Director: Michele M. M. Mazzocco

MSDP is a longitudinal study of math ability and achievement during the early school years. We are housed at the Greenspring Campus of the Kennedy Krieger Institute, although much of our research occurs in Baltimore County Public School District.

The broad, long term objectives of this project are to contribute toward understanding early math ability, math learning disability (MLD), and MLD subtypes. We are interested in knowing how cognitive, behavioral, and genetic factors contribute toward successful mathematics achievement. We are also dedicated to understanding the different processes associated with poor math achievement, and to identifying early indicators (in kindergarten through third grade) of later poor math achievement.

We are currently recruiting children from the following group for our studies:
  • Boys with Barth syndrome ages 3 to 6 years who have not started kindergarten
  • High School students who have participated in the MSDP in the past are being recruited for two studies, including a continuation of the MSDP, and a new MRI study
  • We are not recruiting any other participants at this time.
Please see our Projects page for more information on these studies.
